April 22 saw scores of workers and friends in front of the main UNH entrance in a loud protest calling for the university to get rid of Diversified, the subcontractor that takes care of cleaning at the university. The workers say they were fired for trying to form a union after many were cheated out of overtime and for other abuses. A large banner with a picture of Nora Garcia was the centerpiece of the demonstration. Garcia was a worker at UNH who was active in fighting for her rights. She died of Covid.

The group that helped organize these workers was Unidad Latina en Acction. It is organizing a Mayday celebration and march in New Haven from noon to 4 on the Green. March to follow. BTW this Mayday is the 15th anniversary of the immense Latinx "Boycott" of 2006 where millions took off work and marched in the streets.
